For the past several years, as a part of his litigation practice, E.W. Pike was involved in alternative dispute resolution
through arbitration or mediation, and served as arbitrator or as one of a panel of three arbitrators in several legal
disputes.
He also became increasingly involved in the mediation of some of his cases and was impressed with the utility of
mediation, compared to arbitration, or trial.
To become active as a Mediator, he enrolled in 1997 in the Idaho ADR Institute at the University of Idaho Law School,
presented by Pepperdine University School of Law, for a forty hour basic civil mediation course; in 1999 he attended
Pepperdine University School of Law at Malibu California for further training in Negotiation and Settlement Advocacy
for eighteen hours of certified training; attended another course at Pepperdine University School of Law in 2001,
for another eighteen hours of training for Mediation Skills and Settlement Conference Advocacy; and he recently
completed in May, 2004, a twenty hour advanced mediation course offered by the Northwest Institute for Dispute Resolution
at the University of Idaho College of Law.
He has conducted as Mediator contested matters involving domestic relations, automobile accidents, personal injury
cases, boundary disputes, construction disputes, fee disputes, water disputes, and other areas of litigation.
He believes in the utility of mediation compared to trial. Also, he notes that even when mediation is not
immediately successful, it often helps to focus on the vital issues of a case, and later aids in settlement by counsel
and the parties of a controversy prior to trial.
He is available upon reasonable notice to mediate legal disputes.
